Have you been able to check the actual midi data that the keyboard sends to the PC? Start up something like midi-ox on the pc and check what data you receive when you hit keys...are they most definitely notes, or maybe something else? Now check if this data changes when you start sending the metronome signal with WinJammer. Usually a metronome signal is just note messages. The hardware you added to the keyboard (keyscanner), can that receive midi too, and trigger the keyboard? If it can, maybe it retransmits the metronome notes back to the PC...disconnect the midi output from the pc to the keyboard to see what happens. The keyscanner does nothing else than sending a single MIDI-message per pressed or released key. For example 90H-30H-64H when a certain C-key is pressed. There is only MIDI-out on the keyboard and no MIDI-in. After playing with MIDI-Ox (which is really excellent), I have found the following: MIDI messages from the keyboard scanner are recieved correct.
* Integrated MIDI and Wave file player. Sends your MIDI file to any user selectable any MIDI device. Preview your wave files without leaving Digital Ear.
There is no reason that you have to send a metronome signal or heartbeat or anything like that to make the midi input on the pc work. It seems like hardware...have you got the polarity of your midi signal on the wire right? I once messed that up...will cause strange things to happen. Polarity was changed, no sound at all then. I do also think it is hardware, but not mine: it is probably the soundcard which does not have a full-MIDI interface.
In your OMS document click on the arrow coming out of the port assignment number box and going to the MIDI device. This should highlight the arrow, press the delete button. Now you should just have one arrow coming out of the MIDI device going back to the port assignment. Now OMS knows this device sends MIDI only.
